About the position

As a Ramp Agent at Southwest Airlines, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of ground services at the airport. This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, where you will be responsible for directing aircraft on the ground, handling cargo and baggage, and providing exceptional customer service to travelers. Your day-to-day tasks will include loading and unloading baggage, guiding aircraft, and ensuring that all cargo is handled safely and efficiently. In this role, you will be expected to work assigned shifts based on seniority, which may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position requires a strong ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations, as you will often be required to make quick decisions to ensure the timely turnaround of aircraft. You will also need to be physically fit, as the job involves lifting heavy items, climbing, and working in confined spaces. Training will be provided, and you must successfully complete the Ramp Agent training program to be considered for this position. Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly service to and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external customers.
  • Work cooperatively to ensure the success of the company.
  • Load, unload, service, guide, and direct company aircraft.
  • Receive and record customer baggage, air freight, mail, and company materials as required.
  • Handle all aspects of loading, stowing, and unloading baggage, cargo, airmail, air freight, ballast, and company materials according to predetermined plans.
  • Pick up, deliver, and transport cargo and baggage to and from aircraft and prepare records in connection with these responsibilities.
  • Warehouse, weigh, stack, pick up, and deliver air cargo, checking for discrepancies and correcting routine errors.
  • Safeguard customers' baggage, air cargo, air mail, and COMAT from weather, loss, theft, damage, and/or destruction.
  • Use jetway stairs frequently to carry items checked at the gate to the aircraft bin.
  • Perform interior aircraft cabin cleaning by hand, including sweeping upholstery, cleaning windows, galleys, and disposal containers.
  • Clean and service lavatories, operate lavatory carts, and dispose of contents in accordance with established procedures.
  • May perform duties of a Provisioning Agent, including stocking aircraft cabin interiors for flights with equipment and supplies.
  • Transport cabin and cleaning equipment between aircraft storage areas.
  • Operate and/or drive motorized equipment, such as belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, push back tugs, bag carts, lavatory carts, and de-icers.
  • Complete forms and paperwork connected with work assignments according to established procedures.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a SIDA badge and meet all local airport requirements.
  • Must be able to lift and move items of 70 pounds and/or more regularly and repetitively lift weights of 40 to 50 pounds on raised surfaces.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop frequently and for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in cramped or high places and carry heavy items up and down jetway stairs.
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per company standards.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work shift work and/or overtime.
