About the position

The Ramp Tower Controller - Air Traffic Strategy at United Airlines is responsible for coordinating and administering ramp control and gate management within the airport's non-movement area. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient ground movement of aircraft, improving on-time performance, and reducing taxi delays. The position requires effective communication with various internal departments and external entities to maintain smooth operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and administer ramp control and gate management throughout the airport non-movement area.
  • Monitor inbound and outbound operations and determine the best course of action to manage aircraft movement.
  • Issue push, taxi, safety advisories, and instructions to aircraft in the non-movement area.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with local internal departments and external entities.
  • Maintain continuous liaison with the local airport authority, FAA, and other airlines.
  • Work with specialized hardware and software to monitor and control aircraft movement.
  • Maintain currency in changes to airfield layout and aircraft management policies.
  • Provide ramp control services to other airlines under United control areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or education equivalent.
  • 2 years' experience in Airline/Airport Operations and/or an aviation-related college degree.
  • Intimate knowledge of Airline and/or Airport Operations.
  • Ability to read, write and clearly speak the English language.
  • Ability to multitask different operations simultaneously.
  • Technology literate in working within established systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work any shift in a 24/7 operation including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • College degree with aviation focus.
  • Previous Ramp Tower or FAA Air Traffic Control experience.
