About the position

The RAND Summer Associate Program is designed for outstanding graduate students in various fields such as public policy, public health, and education policy. This fixed-term position allows students to engage in applied, policy-oriented research while being mentored by established researchers at RAND. The program typically lasts for 12 weeks during the summer, where associates conduct research, present their findings, and network with other researchers. The role is hybrid, allowing for both in-person and remote work options, depending on the location and mentorship availability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research that can be completed during the summer assignment.
  • Present research results to the RAND community via a briefing at the end of the assignment.
  • Engage in networking and interaction with other researchers outside of the primary mentorship team.
  • Attend seminars from researchers within and outside of RAND.

Requirements

  • Full-time doctoral students in relevant fields who have completed at least two years of graduate work.
  • Strong interest in applied, policy-oriented research questions.
  • Excellent analytic skills and proven ability in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity.
  • Proof of legal right to work in the United States is required upon hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in health care research, education policy, or social and economic wellbeing research areas.
