About the position

The RAND Summer Associate Program is designed for outstanding graduate students in psychology or related fields, providing them with an opportunity to engage in high-quality research and analysis at the RAND Corporation. This full-time, fixed-term position allows associates to work on applied, policy-oriented research questions while being mentored by established researchers. The program emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, welcoming applicants from historically marginalized groups. Associates will conduct research over a 12-week period, culminating in a presentation of their findings to the RAND community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research that can be completed during the summer assignment.
  • Present research results to the RAND community via a briefing at the end of the assignment.
  • Engage in networking and interaction with other researchers outside of the primary mentorship team.
  • Attend seminars from researchers both within and outside of RAND.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time doctoral student in psychology or related fields.
  • Completion of at least two years of graduate work leading to a doctorate degree.
  • Strong interest in applied, policy-oriented research questions.
  • Excellent analytic skills and proven ability in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity.
  • Proof of legal right to work in the United States is required upon hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in health and health care research.
  • Familiarity with public safety and justice research.
  • Knowledge of terrorism and homeland security issues.
  • Interest in international affairs and national security research.
  • Experience in community-based research and program evaluation.
