About the position
The Range Engineer position at the United States Space Force (USSF) involves serving as the lead government technical expert for Western Range instrumentation assets that support launch and test operations. This role combines mission planning and technical expertise with real-time console support, ensuring public safety and user requirements are met during critical operations. The engineer will also oversee the acquisition of new instrumentation and manage contractor support, making it a pivotal role in advancing the capabilities of the DoD and commercial industries.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead government technical expert for Western Range instrumentation assets.
- Provide real-time console support during launch and test operations.
- Make time-critical decisions to resolve issues and recommend actions to leadership.
- Oversee the acquisition process for new instrumentation and provide operational technical inputs.
- Manage contractor support for instrumentation systems.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Operational console experience during launch/test operations is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Advanced degree in engineering, technical or business management is desired.
- Familiarity with Western Range instrumentation systems such as telemetry, radar, command transmitter, and communication systems.
