About the position

The Range Livestock Herder position involves full-time temporary work focused on the care and management of livestock in various range locations in White Pine and Elko Counties, NV. The role requires spending the majority of workdays outdoors, attending to livestock needs, and ensuring their safety and well-being. This position is part of an H-2A Foreign Labor Certification application, indicating it is open to foreign workers under specific conditions.

Responsibilities

• Administer medication to livestock as needed.
• Assist with loading and unloading livestock according to shipping schedules.
• Attend to pregnant livestock and newborn offspring, including night checks.
• Monitor animals for weight gain, health problems, and birthing issues.
• Repair and maintain fences and facilities to ensure the safety of animals and forage.
• Feed and water livestock, ensuring adequate provision of both.
• Identify and administer appropriate medication for various health issues.
• Maintain accurate records of new offspring born and monitor grazing areas for poisonous plants.
• Work with and around farm machinery such as tractors and ATVs for feeding and movement of livestock.
• Guard against predatory animals and ensure livestock do not consume harmful plants.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Six months of prior experience in livestock herding or related work.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and various weather conditions.
• Capable of performing tasks efficiently without close supervision.
