The City of Escondido is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual for the part-time, temporary position of Ranger Specialist within the Lakes/Open Space Division. This role is budgeted to start at $22.09 per hour and is limited to 1,500 hours per fiscal year. The Ranger Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of park visitors by patrolling city parks and lakes facilities, enforcing city ordinances and park regulations, and providing excellent customer service to the public. The position requires the ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute to a successful team effort, as well as the capability to work well under both direct and indirect supervision. In this role, the Ranger Specialist will prepare and deliver oral presentations to park visitors and community groups, as well as prepare written reports on incidents, accidents, and daily logs. The Ranger Specialist will also be responsible for opening and closing lakes and parks facilities, collecting and depositing fees, and performing general maintenance, cleaning, repair, and improvement on all lake-related park and camping facilities and equipment. This includes maintaining boat docks, fishing piers, trails, picnic and camping sites, restrooms, and irrigation equipment. The ideal candidate will be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and effectively communicate with the public and co-workers both orally and in writing. Candidates must possess an Associate's degree in parks and recreation management or a related discipline, with experience in park operations considered as a substitute for education on a year-to-year basis. Additionally, candidates must complete P.C. 832 and First Aid training within nine months of appointment. Weekend and holiday availability is required, and candidates must be available to work all shifts, including late hours up to 1:00 a.m.
