About the position

The Rating Associate at Moody's plays a crucial role in credit analysis, working closely with lead analysts to assign and monitor credit ratings, conduct research, and engage with issuers and market participants. This position is designed for early career professionals and focuses on developing a strong understanding of credit fundamentals and methodologies while contributing to the accuracy of ratings and research output.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day credit analysis related to ratings, research, presentations, and investor outreach.
  • Review financial spreadsheets and charts, analyze data and financial statements, and build financial forecasts.
  • Assist with proprietary models and new financial projections, identifying trends in data and forming credit conclusions.
  • Develop a working knowledge of credit fundamentals and Moody's methodologies with guidance from lead analysts.
  • Collaborate with lead analysts in preparing the first draft of rating committee memos.
  • Monitor credit quality and industry trends by following market developments and engaging with issuers directly.
  • Attend and participate in rating committee meetings, offering analysis and opinion where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the first draft of core research in collaboration with lead analysts and adhere to Moody's research standards.
  • Build positive relationships with issuers and respond proactively to inquiries.
  • Operate applicable ratings and research systems, demonstrating understanding of Moody's processes and best practices.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organization skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Some understanding of fixed income markets and/or credit knowledge is preferred.
  • Some relevant experience (including internships) is preferred.
  • Accounting knowledge with a strong focus on financial analysis is preferred.
  • Minimum undergraduate/first-level degree with strong academic performance (minimum GPA of 3.0).
  • Finance and accounting background preferred.
