About the position

The Raw Material Coordinator at Nucor Yamato Steel plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Scrap Yard. This position emphasizes leadership in safety, quality, yield, housekeeping, and productivity while ensuring effective communication and coordination among scrap yard operators and suppliers. The coordinator will manage scrap inspection, processing, and inventory, contributing to the overall efficiency and sustainability of the operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Supervisor in day-to-day operations of the Scrap Yard.
• Lead in areas concerning Safety, Quality, Yield, Housekeeping, and Productivity.
• Manage barge/rail scrap inspection, offloading, and placement in the scrap yard.
• Track demurrage for barges and coordinate processing and shipment of secondary materials.
• Update the scrap pile location road map and track percentage usage of the scrap mix.
• Communicate and coordinate with scrap yard operators to execute the strategic plan on scrap mix.
• Coordinate with maintenance and operations for repairs on rail mount Komatsu and scale cars.
• Inspect alloy storage buildings and conduct bulk alloy surveys monthly and yearly.
• Track received and used scrap, inventory, and costs.
• Oversee recycling and sale of non-ferrous materials generated onsite.
• Assist in preparation of plans for scrap buying and grading of scrap from various sources.

Requirements

• 3 years of experience in scrap management or electric arc furnace operations.
• Strong accountability and dependability in work habits.
• Attention to detail in task completion and meeting expectations.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills regarding costs and benefits.
• Effective communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Mathematical knowledge applicable to the role, including arithmetic and statistics.
• Ability to coordinate and obtain information from relevant sources.
• Knowledge of alloys, including their chemical composition and properties.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience operating rail mount Komatsu.
• Previous cross-training in related areas.
