About the position

We are responsible for the overall health of our community's pediatric population in our hospitals, clinics, and practices. The RCP Residency Program is designed to provide extra support and training to recent graduates as they prepare to transition into their first RCP careers in neonatal/pediatric care. RCP residents will receive additional one-on-one mentorship and precepted clinical training in our acute care floors, NICU, PICU, and CVICU. RCP Residents will also participate in didactic classes that cover essential topics such as neonatal and pediatric anatomy and physiology, disease pathophysiology and clinical management, ventilator management, pharmacology, cardiac anomalies, and cardiopulmonary interactions of mechanical ventilation. This program is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their careers while contributing to the health and well-being of children in our community. The program starts on September 9, 2024, and all applicants must attach a resume and cover letter. The application cycle ends on July 9, 2024, and selected applicants will be chosen and invited on a rolling basis. Responsibilities

  • Receive additional one-on-one mentorship and precepted clinical training in acute care floors, NICU, PICU, and CVICU.
  • Participate in didactic classes covering essential topics such as neonatal and pediatric anatomy and physiology, disease pathophysiology, and clinical management.
  • Provide appropriate patient care depending upon age-specific, cultural diversity, and spiritual needs.
  • Complete accurate documentation in the patient EMR.
  • Deliver care with sensitivity and respect, promoting teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate (within 12 months) of an accredited two-year Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License - CA at the time of application.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider - Essentials (NRP), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide appropriate patient care based on age-specific needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science/Arts degree preferred.
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS) certification preferred.
