About the position

The RCRA Permitting and Compliance Team Leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for leading a team of 20 environmental professionals in managing hazardous waste compliance and RCRA permitting. This role focuses on operational excellence, creative problem-solving, and fostering a collaborative work environment while overseeing various waste management programs. The position requires strong leadership skills, strategic planning, and the ability to drive process improvements to meet the Laboratory's waste management goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the RCRA Permitting and Compliance Team, ensuring effective management and operational excellence.
  • Oversee RCRA Hazardous Waste Facility Permit management and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with other organizations at the Laboratory to ensure compliance with RCRA regulations.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Report on operational performance metrics and generate high-quality deliverables.
  • Drive process improvements and contribute to the Laboratory's annual waste initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing effective leadership and management in an inclusive team environment.
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state environmental and waste management regulations, particularly RCRA.
  • Experience in collaborating across organizational boundaries and fostering effective working relationships.
  • Strong record of strategic planning, risk management, and tactical execution.

Nice-to-haves

  • Detailed knowledge of RCRA permitting and hazardous waste management requirements.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing waste management documents related to RCRA compliance.
  • Previous experience managing a waste or environmental program in the Federal or State government sector.
  • Active DOE "Q" or other Top Secret clearance.
