About the position

The Reach Truck Operator is responsible for overseeing shipping and receiving activities, ensuring the accuracy and condition of shipments. This role involves supervising the movement of materials, inspecting cargo, and maintaining equipment storage areas. The operator will also assess current processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency in logistics operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and condition of shipments.
• Assess current processes, make recommendations, and implement improvements.
• Issue work orders or oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
• Supervise and direct the movement of freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers.
• Ensure that cargo is identified and inspected before loading and unloading and compared to shippers.
• Document and handle discrepancies according to proper procedure.
• Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notify maintenance accordingly.
• Compile records related to shipping and receiving.
• Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
• Supervise the completion of general yard duties, such as housekeeping, cleanup, inventory/material counts, and general organization.
• Assist workers in shipping and receiving activities.

Requirements

• Experience in shipping and receiving.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Fork truck license preferred, with training available for certification.

Nice-to-haves

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Familiarity with material handling software.
