About the position
The Reactor Engineer (Modeling & Simulation) position is located in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, specifically within the Division of Engineering, Reactor Engineering Branch. The role involves providing technical assessments of engineering aspects of reactor systems, focusing on modeling and simulation related to design, analysis, fabrication, operation, maintenance, and testing of reactor systems and components. The position requires specialized experience in reactor engineering and offers opportunities for complex analytic and experimental research programs.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate technical issues and resolutions related to the application of digital twins, big data engineering, and machine learning.
- Develop plans and objectives for complex analytic and experimental research programs to enhance code simulations.
- Perform detailed Verification and Validation studies to assess the applicability of NRC computer codes for regulatory uses.
- Prepare and deliver presentations for technical and programmatic review meetings.
Requirements
- At least one year of specialized experience at the GG-13 level or equivalent in the private or public sector.
- Demonstrated knowledge of reactor engineering principles and regulations.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and control complex engineering projects.
- Effective oral and written communication skills on technical issues.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with multi-physics and artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms.
- Knowledge of NRC's regulations and industry codes and standards.
