About the position
Sylvan Learning Center is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Reading Teachers to join our team for after-school tutoring sessions. This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to inspire and educate students in a fun and supportive environment. As a Reading Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching reading and writing to students of all levels, utilizing pre-planned lessons that are straightforward and enjoyable to deliver. Our individualized learning plans cater to students of varying abilities, ensuring that each child receives the attention and support they need to succeed. In this role, you will work with small groups of no more than three students, allowing for personalized instruction and a focused learning experience. The teaching schedule is flexible, with most teachers choosing to work between 2 to 5 days a week, in shifts ranging from 3 to 5 hours. Our operational hours are weekdays from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM and Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This is an on-site position, and you will not be required to create lesson plans, grade homework, or conduct parent conferences, making it an ideal teaching role without the typical downsides of traditional teaching positions. Responsibilities
- Teach reading and writing to students in a small group setting of no more than three students.
- Utilize pre-planned lessons that are straightforward and easy to manage.
- Motivate and inspire students to achieve academic success.
- Provide individualized instruction based on students' learning plans.
- Maintain punctuality and reliability in attendance and transportation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Teaching Credential recommended (required for some subjects).
- Enjoy teaching and inspiring students.
- Ability to work locally and have reliable transportation.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred.
- Experience in teaching or tutoring is a plus.
