We are seeking a dedicated Reading/Literacy Paraprofessional to join our team and provide vital support to our teachers and students. Funded by the federal government, Title 1 programs aim to bridge the achievement gap for students. In this role, you will work directly with a qualified teacher to create a positive and productive learning environment. You'll provide individualized and small group instruction to support students' academic achievement. Ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively, skilled at working with small groups of students using literacy strategies aligned with best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring for eligible students during times when the teacher would not otherwise be instructing the student
  • Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional and other materials
  • Provide assistance in a computer lab
  • Provide support in a library or media center
  • Conduct parental involvement activities
  • Act as a translator
  • Provide instructional services to students, if working under the direct supervision of a teacher
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all student files and family concerns
  • Assist the children in the cafeteria, playground and in other in school non-classroom locations
  • Maintain a calm attitude and sense of control at all times, modeling appropriate behavior for the student(s)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; or
  • Have obtained at least an associate's degree or completed two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrates through formal State or local academic assessment: Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics; or Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
  • Valid ESEA qualified Educational Aide certificate as issued by the Ohio Department of Education
  • High school graduate
  • Ability to communicate with others
  • Ability to maintain supervision over students
