About the position

Worcester Cultural Academy Charter Public School is seeking a dedicated Reading Specialist to provide literacy support to students in grades K-5. The role focuses on enhancing literacy skills, particularly for English Language Learners and students with disabilities, through collaborative curriculum development in a unique educational setting. The Reading Specialist will work closely with classroom teachers and report directly to the Principal, contributing to a supportive and nurturing school community that emphasizes hands-on learning and project-based experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with students, either individually or in a small group.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop strategies to improve literacy for all students.
  • Assess students in their classroom and develop appropriate interventions.
  • Discuss concerns with both general educators and special educators.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Principal.
  • Prepare students for Student-Led Conferences through the creation of Portfolios.
  • Attend and facilitate Student-Led Conferences (~2 per year).

Requirements

  • Possession of at least an initial teaching license in Reading Specialist - All Levels.
  • Completion of a Massachusetts Reading Program - All Levels approved program.
  • Possession of a Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field required.
  • Master's degree required.
  • At least five years of teaching experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification with a multi-sensory reading approach such as Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading.
  • Experience facilitating small-group literacy interventions.
  • Experience using a multi-sensory intervention program in language-based classrooms.
  • Experience in an elementary school setting.
