About the position

The Real Estate Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial accounting and reporting, tax compliance, and various functions for approximately 22 owned commercial real estate properties and 300 leased properties across the United States. This role involves managing the Yardi Breeze accounting software, preparing monthly rent schedules, and ensuring compliance with property tax and income tax requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Process transactions for owned properties and maintain financial trial balances and reports.
  • Prepare and process general ledger entries to record various activities.
  • Prepare quarterly consolidated financial statements and analyze financial results.
  • Monitor and update cash flow projections for owned properties.
  • Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Organize monthly rent payments for over 300 locations and coordinate with accounts payable.
  • Update Prolease database with information from landlords and property managers.
  • Review vendor invoices for propriety and necessary approvals.
  • Communicate with independent accountants for annual tax return preparation.
  • Maintain internal accounting controls relevant to the department.
  • Prepare and communicate annual NNN reconciliations for each tenant.
  • Responsible for bank loan administration and documentation.
  • Prepare and monitor depreciation records of owned properties.
  • Serve as a backup for preparing the Statement of Values for insurance.
  • Perform general accounting practices including cash receipts and accounts payable.
  • Monitor rent collections and follow up on delinquent rent.
  • Calculate and manage payments for intercompany insurance.
  • Maintain vendor contracts for owned properties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 3-5 years experience working in real estate accounting.
  • Knowledge of banking practices and real estate transactions.
  • Ability to access and extract information from the Prolease real estate database.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify discrepancies and problem solve.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software and Yardi/ProLease software.
