About the position

EquipmentShare is looking for a business-focused attorney with experience in land use and commercial real estate transactions to join our team. As part of EquipmentShare's Legal Department, you will work closely with EquipmentShare's attorneys and partner with the Real Estate, Construction, and other departments to further the Company's expansion real estate initiatives. This position will report to the Deputy General Counsel and be located in Columbia, Missouri, or remote, for the right candidate. We're seeking a Real Estate and Land Use Counsel who loves a challenge and wants the opportunity to grow with a fast-paced company. Your primary responsibilities will include leading the negotiation and drafting of EquipmentShare's real estate agreements, assisting in closings for a variety of commercial transaction types, including purchases, sales, leases, sale-leasebacks, and acquisitions. You will also be responsible for the procurement of zoning and land use entitlements and permits, providing advice and counsel related to real estate site selection, transaction structure, due diligence, and real estate documents related to new branch opening activities. You will interact directly with colleagues at all levels within EquipmentShare's real estate, development, and construction teams, as well as with outside counsel, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Leads negotiation and drafting of EquipmentShare's real estate agreements.
  • Assists in closings for a variety of commercial transaction types, including purchases, sales, leases, sale-leasebacks, and acquisitions.
  • Procurement of zoning and land use entitlements and permits.
  • Provides advice and counsel related to real estate site selection, transaction structure, due diligence, and real estate documents related to new branch opening activities.
  • Interacts directly with colleagues at all levels within EquipmentShare's real estate, development, and construction teams.
  • Interacts directly with outside counsel, opposing counsel, landlord personnel, title and escrow agents, and others.
  • Understands, manages, and improves EquipmentShare and Legal Department procedures and forms to create efficiencies and cost savings.

Requirements

  • Requires J.D./L.L.B. from an accredited law school.
  • Attorney license in good standing and admission to the bar in at least one state.
  • 5+ years of relevant substantive legal experience in a law firm or company legal department working on land use and commercial real estate transactions.
  • Experience with environmental law and in land use issues and trends, with preference to attorneys representing applicants before planning and zoning boards and other governmental agencies.
  • Ability to multi-task within a fast-paced work environment with very detailed information and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proactive work ethic demonstrating initiative.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, manage self and time effectively, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to learn and use proprietary computer systems and databases.
