About the position

The Records Specialist 1 position at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Greene involves maintaining accurate and up-to-date master files for incarcerated individuals. This role is crucial in supporting the Department of Corrections' mission to enhance public safety through rehabilitation and housing of inmates. The specialist will analyze court documents, review inmate criminal histories, and ensure legal compliance for inmate releases, while also conducting interviews and communicating with various criminal justice agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date DC-15 master files.
  • Analyze court documents to create or revise sentence structures and calculations.
  • Review time periods for commitment credit to determine legal applicability.
  • Revise sentence calculations based on changes from the court or Probation and Parole Board.
  • Update and review inmate criminal histories.
  • Conduct one-on-one interviews with inmates for various reasons.
  • Communicate with criminal justice agencies regarding inmates.
  • Scrutinize inmate cases prior to release to ensure legality and compliance with requirements.
  • Register and fingerprint sex offenders under Megan's Law.

Requirements

  • Two years of clerical or correctional custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a 37.5-hour work week.
  • Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch break.
