About the position

The Recovery Coach will support the recovery needs of patients in a new, 45-bed men's behavioral health unit at Boston Medical Center, located within the Suffolk County Jail. This role involves facilitating access to recovery-oriented treatment and resources, providing ongoing support, and promoting a non-judgmental, patient-centered approach to care. The Recovery Coach will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to help patients overcome obstacles to recovery and achieve their personal goals.

Responsibilities

  • Engage patients in a correctional setting to help establish recovery goals.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate skill-building support groups.
  • Maintain up-to-date resources for self-help programs for patients post-release.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support patient recovery.
  • Present regular trainings and in-service trainings for non-peer staff.
  • Seek continuing education in the Peer Support field.
  • Provide links to post-release sober housing and recovery-supportive employment.
  • Address and resolve issues related to patient needs and complaints.
  • Utilize motivational enhancement techniques to encourage patient engagement.
  • Adhere to HIPAA standards and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience in community health with a minimum of 2 years in healthcare/SUD treatment.
  • BA/BS in Human Services preferred or three years relevant experience in SUD treatment.
  • Prior completion of the Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) certification preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience working with patients experiencing homelessness preferred.
  • Experience in settings of incarceration or with justice-involved individuals preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience in a recovery network.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills appropriate to the patient population served.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility in schedule to meet unit needs, including evenings and weekends.
