About the position

The Recovery Peer position at Discovery Behavioral Healthcare is designed for individuals with lived experience in recovery from substance use disorders. This role focuses on providing one-on-one support and advocacy to clients, helping them navigate their recovery journey and empowering them to take charge of their treatment. The Recovery Peer will utilize their personal experiences to connect with clients and offer resources that address their unique needs, fostering independence and resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support to help clients attain and maintain independence.
  • Assist with transition services from hospital/inpatient care to community living.
  • Support clients with personal hygiene, money management, public transportation, employment, and social skills.
  • Help clients with medication management and completion of household tasks such as cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, and housekeeping.
  • Provide timely oral and written feedback on client progress to the treatment team.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and seek clinical supervision when necessary.
  • Build relationships with community members and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of recovery experience.
  • Completion or ability to complete the Washington State Mental Health Division's Peer Counselor Training and obtain certification as a Peer Counselor.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in addiction counseling (1 year preferred).
