About the position

This position will be a Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) assigned to Outdoor Recreation at Minot AFB, ND. This is a Flexible (FLEX) position. A Flex (Intermittent) schedule does not have guaranteed hours, and you may work 0-40 hours per week as needed by the facility. Employees are eligible to use the fitness center, golf course, bowling center, clubs, and swimming pool.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
• Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
• Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance when needed.
• Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
• Operates water pumps and controls chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
• Inspects diving boards frequently for cracks or loose matting, and ensures necessary repairs are made.
• Cleans bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, and sunbathing areas.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills.
• Must have basic first aid training and CPR (both child and adult) training.
• For coastal lifeguards: must also have surf rescue techniques training.
• Experience providing practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures, and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.
