About the position

The Recreation Assistant at Jefferson's Ferry is responsible for leading group activities and providing individual visits to residents with varying cognitive abilities, including those with dementia. This role aims to support the social, emotional, and religious needs of residents while ensuring their safety and compliance with prescribed orders. The position requires maintaining documentation related to therapeutic recreation and staying updated on current trends and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead group activities for residents with varied cognitive abilities.
• Provide 1:1 visits to residents as needed.
• Support residents' social, emotional, and religious needs by maintaining a festive environment.
• Plan and participate in special events.
• Maintain knowledge of current recreation trends and techniques through continuing education workshops.
• Complete facility documentation regarding Therapeutic Recreation following State and Federal guidelines.
• Ensure resident safety by monitoring prescribed orders, including oxygen tanks and dietary needs.
• Follow NYSDOH regulations and maintain knowledge of relevant regulations.

Requirements

• Graduate from or currently enrolled in a Therapeutic Recreation or related program (Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Health Science) preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent with at least one year of related experience and/or training.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with elderly populations.
• Knowledge of therapeutic recreation practices.
