About the position

The Recreation Assistant II position at the City of Colorado Springs involves coordinating various recreational programs for youth, teens, adults, and families while supporting the daily operations of community center facilities. The role focuses on planning, implementing, and evaluating programs in areas such as arts, culture, health, wellness, and social engagement. Two positions are available, with one concentrating on special events and adult programming, and the other on youth programming and health initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreational, educational, and instructional programs, trips, events, and services.
  • Function as lead program staff and oversee year-round programs and services for all center participants.
  • Collaborate with programming staff from other facilities and workgroups.
  • Support compliance with the Department's Child Care Licensing requirements.
  • Supervise volunteers and seasonal staff.
  • Oversee the registration process for assigned programs and maintain detailed participant information.
  • Maintain detailed inventory of equipment and supplies and assist in identifying and acquiring resources as needed.
  • Assist with daily operations of the community center, including marketing, program registration, facility monitoring, and customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in a recreation program or related area.
  • Valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug violations.
  • CPR, First Aid, and ServSafe certifications within three months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or greater in recreation, physical activity, child development, public health, counseling, or human services.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification and/or medication delegation certification.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
