About the position

The Inn at The Horsham Center for Jewish Life is seeking a dedicated Recreation Therapist to enhance our team by developing a creative and dynamic recreation program tailored to the needs of our patients. The Recreation Therapist will be responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing quality activities that cater to the recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of each patient. This role is crucial in ensuring that all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and facility standards, thereby promoting a holistic approach to patient care. In this full-time position, the Recreation Therapist will work a flexible schedule, which may include late afternoons and weekends. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of recreation experience in a Personal Care Unit within the last five years, with a preference for prior experience in geriatrics. The role requires a strong ability to make independent decisions and a thorough understanding of the practices, procedures, and regulations governing functions in a Personal Care Facility. The Recreation Therapist will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in arts, crafts, and music, and will be responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs that include entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education. Additionally, the therapist will chart patient progress and behavior, escort patients to and from activities, and make regular in-room visits to engage patients who may be uninterested or unable to participate in group activities. Excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients are essential, as is the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate quality activity programs including entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education.
  • Chart patient progress and behavior appropriately and descriptively.
  • Escort patients to and from activities as needed.
  • Make regular in-room visits to patients who are uninterested or unable to participate in group activities.
  • Manage and operate within budget effectively.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients.
  • Assist in the evacuation of patients when necessary.
  • Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Communicate and function productively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Must have one (1) year of recreation experience in a Personal Care Unit within the last five years.
  • Prior experience with geriatrics is preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some late afternoons and weekends.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in arts, crafts, and music is preferred.
  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in a Personal Care Facility.
  • Ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department.
  • Proficient in all competency areas including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
  • Ability to concentrate, use reasoning skills, and good judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing recreational programs for elderly patients.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic recreation practices.
