About the position

The Recreation Attendant at Janet Goeske Senior Center is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facility, with a focus on restroom upkeep and general housekeeping. This role involves assisting with janitorial and maintenance tasks, ensuring a healthy environment for patrons, and supporting event setups and teardowns.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up/tear-down tables, chairs, and equipment as needed for all events.
  • Closely monitor patrons and room use, providing internal/external oversight of the facility.
  • Open and close the Center following established procedures.
  • Report any unusual activities, patron challenges, facility, and equipment problems to the Center Manager.
  • Maintain all restroom facilities for cleanliness and toiletry needs, refreshing items based on usage.
  • Maintain inventory of janitorial/toiletry supplies as directed by the Center Manager.
  • Regularly clean common areas, including tables, chairs, and furnishings; perform spot or full cleaning of floors as needed.
  • Collect trash daily in all common areas, offices, and external receptacles.
  • Maintain glass and clean doors and doorways to ensure a good impression of the Center.
  • Perform weekly cleaning of internal and external windows and maintain clean interior doors.
  • Conduct weekly wheelchair lift inspections and document results, reporting any issues to the Center Manager.
  • Perform janitorial and maintenance duties as delegated by the Center Manager and Executive Director.
  • Provide backup phone/front desk coverage as needed.
  • Assist with rental coverage, including setup/teardown and attending to renters' requests.

Requirements

  • Use of various types of janitorial/maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work independently, with volunteers, and as part of a professional team.
  • Professional demeanor and positive role model.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with older adults.
  • Good use of English grammar and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, and pull (up to 50 lbs.) for setup/teardown of rooms.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience in related responsibilities.
  • Computer literate with expertise in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Canva.
