About the position

The Recreation Coordinator will oversee the planning, development, and implementation of recreational programming for the City of Belton. This role involves working closely with department heads, the public, and outside agencies to enhance community engagement through various recreational activities. The position requires a creative and motivated individual who can effectively manage events and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recreation program for the City.
  • Establish short and long-range priorities, goals, and objectives for recreation offerings.
  • Submit ideas for new programs or ways to improve existing programs.
  • Develop marketing tools and materials to increase support and participation in recreation activities.
  • Assist with recruitment and oversight of events related to volunteers.
  • Serve as a liaison between City staff and various organizations during events.
  • Prepare and maintain inventory and upkeep of all operational equipment.
  • Respond to public inquiries about recreation, special events, and seasonal programs.
  • Assist customers with audio and visual equipment and rental options.
  • Perform maintenance needs at the Harris Community Center, including cleaning and room setups.
  • Manage the Community Garden Program and assist with City Park rentals.
  • Communicate effectively with the Parks maintenance department.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of experience in Parks & Recreation or event planning is preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern principles and practices of parks, recreation, and event planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, and present information effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Parks & Recreation or event planning is preferred.
  • Experience in cash handling and facilities maintenance best practices.
