About the position

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe, well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Recreation Facility Manager to join our Community Center Operations and Programs team. The potential candidate will play a key role in supervising and overseeing all aspects of personnel and operations of a recreational facility. This includes scheduling and monitoring project implementation and completion, as well as instructing a variety of professional development seminars to staff, emphasizing topics such as public relations. The Recreation Facility Manager will conduct on-site field visits, inspect playground equipment to provide preventive maintenance measures, and ensure safe play and work conditions. They will also prepare and submit financial and program participation reports, obtaining the support and cooperation of the public by maintaining positive public relations through establishing creative promotional literature and friendly communication. The role involves coordinating programming and scheduling for numerous activities and programs, including special events, building and equipment rentals, and referee staffing for league games. Additionally, the manager will design brochures, announcements, and pamphlets to promote various activities offered at the centers. They will plan, develop, and implement programs at recreation centers for youth and teens in the After School and Summer Programs for participants ages 6-13 at various locations. The position requires promoting exhibitions and demonstrations in conjunction with programs and special events, assisting in maintaining reports and other paperwork as assigned, and working with staff to maintain inventory control systems and market programs. Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays, is necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree in physical education, art, or a related field is required.
  • Two years of experience in recreation or education are required.
  • Full-time recreation or educational experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-to-year basis.
  • May require a valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
