About the position

The Recreation Leader I position within the City of Escondido's Community Services Department is designed for individuals who are passionate about fostering community engagement through volunteer opportunities. This part-time role is budgeted to start at $16.00 per hour and is limited to 999 hours per fiscal year, making it a non-PERS eligible position. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Management Analyst and will play a crucial role in supporting citywide volunteer efforts. This includes engaging with the public at various events, entering volunteer data into the City's tracking system, promoting volunteer opportunities, and answering inquiries from the public regarding volunteering. The position requires approximately 20 hours of work per week, scheduled primarily from Monday to Thursday, with varying hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and occasional weekend events (1-3 per month).

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with various volunteer opportunities and answer questions.
• Enter volunteer data into the City's tracking system.
• Conduct various office tasks related to volunteer management.
• Provide onsite support for volunteer events.
• Maintain program supplies in adequate quantity and in good condition.
• Ensure participants sign the required volunteer forms during events.
• Provide excellent customer service via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
• Keep the office space clean and organized.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment.
• First Aid and CPR Certification within 30 days of employment.
• Evening and weekend availability as needed.
• Must possess a valid Class 'C' California driver's license at the time of hire.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
• Previous volunteer experience is highly desirable.
