About the position

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County is seeking a Facility Director to oversee the day-to-day operations within the Arts & Cultural Heritage Division, specifically at the Newton White Mansion and Snow Hill Manor. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of specialized knowledge and expertise in recreation management, ensuring that both historic rental venues operate smoothly and efficiently. This role requires effective decision-making skills, the ability to multitask, and strong communication skills to coordinate with the assistant facility director, maintenance team, and office staff in a demanding environment. As the Facility Director, the incumbent will be responsible for a variety of operational duties, including facility management, marketing programs, budget maintenance, and supervising activities. The position involves monitoring the daily operations of the venues, ensuring that all activities align with the department's goals and standards. The Facility Director will also be tasked with recruiting, training, and managing direct reports, ensuring that all staff are well-equipped to handle their responsibilities in event management, maintenance, and administrative procedures. In addition to operational oversight, the Facility Director will play a key role in community engagement by planning, organizing, and implementing cultural, interpretive, historical, or recreational activities that cater to a diverse population. This includes managing the rental program for various events such as weddings and meetings, developing advertising programs, and maintaining accurate records of reservations and revenue. The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that the facilities are prepared and properly set up for events, thereby enhancing the overall experience for clients and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of Newton White Mansion & Snow Hill Manor.
  • Supervise assistant facility director, maintenance staff, and office staff.
  • Recruit, train, and manage direct reports in event management and administrative procedures.
  • Utilize event management systems and technology for planning and scheduling.
  • Monitor annual revenue goals and ensure accurate bookings.
  • Maintain administration records including reservation records and monthly revenue reports.
  • Plan and implement community-based cultural and recreational activities.
  • Prepare client correspondence, contracts, cancellations, and refunds.
  • Manage rental programs for various events and set rental fee structures.
  • Develop advertising programs and community outreach to promote facility services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Facility Management, Recreation Management, or related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in a facility related to parks or recreation, including one year as a facility manager or supervisor.
  • Valid driver's license without restrictions that could limit driving duties.
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, or other relevant areas may be required based on assignment.
  • Pass Commission medical exam.
