About the position

The Recreation Program Coordinator is a full-time position within the Haywood County Recreation Department, responsible for planning and implementing a variety of recreational programs for the community. This role involves scheduling events, managing social media for recreation and parks, and assisting participants with inquiries and registration processes. The coordinator will monitor public attendance at activities and park usage, ensuring that facilities are utilized effectively. Additionally, the position requires maintaining a reservation calendar for recreation facilities and assisting with the implementation of various activities as needed. The coordinator will also engage in research related to recreational programming and discuss potential initiatives with the Director of Parks & Recreation and the Community & Economic Development Director. Financial responsibilities include maintaining a spreadsheet of the department budget, processing payments, making bank deposits, and ordering supplies as necessary. The coordinator will serve as the secretary for the recreational advisory board and ensure that all personnel paperwork is completed and forwarded to human resources, including making adjustments and approving time for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement outdoor-based recreational activities and programs for all community segments, groups, ages, and interest levels.
  • Coordinate and monitor all department social media platforms.
  • Assist in planning the maintenance of recreation facilities.
  • Prepare the department budget and maintain budget spreadsheets.
  • Assist participants and citizens with recreation-related questions and needs.
  • Maintain the online registration and reservation system.
  • Develop a Recreation Newsletter for review by the Director of Recreation & Parks.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience in recreation program planning and implementation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage events and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and assist with inquiries.
  • Familiarity with social media management for community engagement.
  • Basic financial management skills for budget maintenance.
