About the position

The Recreation Program Director is responsible for overseeing the development and operations of all adult and youth services at the Recreation Center in Norwood. This role involves implementing recreational and fitness programs, supervising staff, and managing daily operations in the absence of the Recreation Director. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to engage with the community to promote membership and program participation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Recreation Center in the absence of the Recreation Director.
  • Plan and develop the schedule for all programming.
  • Support community-wide membership retention and engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison to community partners and model core values to staff and the community.
  • Assist in recruiting and securing qualified staff and volunteers.
  • Manage, direct, and supervise assigned staff, including assigning work schedules and evaluating performance.
  • Provide CPR and First Aid training for all staff.
  • Prepare incident reports and other required reports affecting supervised employees.
  • Assist in the management of facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Inspect recreational equipment for safety hazards and manage pool operations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of recreation activities.
  • Develop long-range vision and strategies for the aquatics program.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community agencies and organizations.
  • Research and analyze community needs to determine program directions and goals.
  • Monitor recreational areas for safety and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Manage all program financial transactions and prepare accurate reports.
  • Assist in planning and developing the annual budget for the Recreation Center.
  • Represent the Recreation Department in relations with public officials and community organizations.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in recreation, health and physical education, or related field preferred.
  • Five years of recent work experience in administrative recreation management or related field, with two years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid driver's license and insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
