About the position

The Recreation Programmer position at the City of Eugene focuses on developing and implementing inclusive recreational, social, and cultural programs for patrons of all ages, particularly youth. The role requires a solid understanding of current trends and best practices in recreation programming, as well as the ability to engage with the community and adapt to its needs. The Recreation Programmer will work closely with a creative team in a dynamic environment, ensuring that programs are accessible and meet the diverse needs of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, implement, supervise, evaluate, and enhance program activities and services in assigned areas.
  • Provide program coverage as needed, adjusting to fluctuating responsibilities based on the needs of program participants and city demands.
  • Assist with long-range planning and the development of program goals and objectives in line with departmental and community needs.
  • Support recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of staff; assign work, ensure training, and address sensitive personnel issues.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion by implementing the City's Affirmative Action and diversity work plans.
  • Market and promote programs and services through various media channels, including social media.
  • Assist with program budget development and monitoring, maintain accurate records, and generate expenditure reports.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate balanced programs and special events.
  • Monitor program compliance with regulations and oversee maintenance of assigned facilities and equipment.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the implementation of recreational, social, and cultural programs and services directly related to the assigned area of responsibility.
  • One year of programming related to multi-generational patrons preferred.
  • One year experience in a lead/manager role preferred.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in recreation, experiential education, child development/education, human/social services, or a closely related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with bilingual programming or services.
  • Knowledge of community recreational, social, and cultural needs.
