About the position

The position involves developing, organizing, and overseeing special events such as summer concerts, seasonal festivals, community celebrations, fundraisers, and recreational programs. The role requires effective budget management, vendor and partner relations, marketing and promotion, volunteer management, logistics coordination, post-event evaluation, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and oversee special events, including summer concerts, seasonal festivals, community celebrations, fundraisers, and recreational programs.
  • Prepare and manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
  • Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and community partners to secure services, sponsorships, and support for events.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote events through various channels, including social media, flyers, and local media outlets.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, ensuring they are effectively utilized during events.
  • Arrange for permits, equipment, supplies, and other logistical needs to ensure successful event execution.
  • Conduct post-event analysis, including participant feedback and budget reconciliation, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Foster relationships with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to encourage participation and support for events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Event Management, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in event planning, recreation management, or a related area.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various event locations. Must meet the City of Southfield driving standards.
