About the position

The Recreation Specialist at the ETR/Westover Job Corps Center is responsible for organizing and supervising recreational activities for students both on and off-center. This part-time role focuses on developing diverse programs that promote fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles, while also ensuring a positive and safe environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and supervises on and off-center recreation activities for students.
  • Assists in developing and implementing diverse programs including arts and crafts, intramurals, and cultural events.
  • Guides students in making informed lifestyle choices regarding fitness and nutrition.
  • Prepares schedules and calendars for all recreation activities.
  • Coordinates student field trips.
  • Maintains recreation facilities, equipment, and materials to Center standards.
  • Tracks and records program attendance.
  • Orders and maintains recreational equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Provides transportation for students to and from center-sponsored events.
  • Recognizes and reinforces students' positive behavior.
  • Promotes a positive work environment demonstrating career success standards and core values.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field or 1 year related experience working with youth.
  • One year of recreation experience.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid commercial Driver's License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire.
  • Water Safety Certification.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of operational practices and principles of recreation programs.
  • Proficient in rules and regulations of common sports and games.
  • Knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
