About the position

The Recreation Specialist - Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and programs at the Recreation Center. This full-time position involves supervising part-time staff, managing administrative duties, and ensuring high-quality service delivery. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, and is overtime eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting and training all Guest Services employees, including Leads.
  • Assist with administrative duties of the Recreation programs, including membership billing, system class entry, roster management, class scheduling, marketing information, and invoicing.
  • Lead, supervise, and assist team members in daily duties, including handling disciplinary action if necessary.
  • Verify high-quality work is completed for every task and provide constructive feedback for improvements.
  • Participate in planning course offerings for recreation programs.
  • Participate in the Manager on Duty rotation, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Engage in facility management/operations activities of the Recreation Center when short-staffed.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in all areas and comply with safety practices.
  • Attend meetings and events as needed, including some outside regular work schedules.
  • Provide support for all Recreation Division activities and events, including front desk coverage and event coordination.
  • Work cohesively with supervisors/managers to achieve Resource Allocation goals for the Recreation Division.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills and apply the City of Hurst's Code of Ideals in all interactions.
  • Communicate effectively with the public regarding City policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as directed when logical and appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field, OR two years of previous work in a municipal recreation center.
  • Regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work overtime as required.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it within six months.
