About The Position

The Recreation Specialist role at Northeast Arc involves implementing and managing community-based recreational programs and events aimed at promoting active and healthy lifestyles for individuals, particularly those with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. This per diem position requires collaboration with the Recreation Manager and other staff to ensure the successful delivery of various recreational activities, including fitness classes, social events, and outings.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; some college experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities is a plus.
  • Prior experience in the field of Recreation and Leisure is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Aids the Recreation Manager, Lead Recreation Specialist, and Director of Recreation in delivering community-based athletic, adventure, art, social, and educational programs, events, trips, and workshops.
  • Assists in supervising volunteers during the delivery of programs, events, trips, and workshops.
  • Ensures that the needs of participants are being met in collaboration with the Recreation Manager and Lead Recreation Specialist.
  • Maintains close contact with the Recreation Manager and Director regarding incidents and documentation, ensuring accountability for mandated reporting.
  • Attends periodic supervision and training sessions with the Recreation Manager and Director regarding programming development and job performance.
  • Acts as program leader upon request, leading the implementation and management of programs, community outings, events, and workshops.
  • Oversees volunteers and contributes input towards effective program and event development and implementation.
  • Accounts for attendance and distributes invoices for each session managed.
  • Aids in communications with participants, families, support staff, and external organizations as needed.
