About the position

The Recreation Summer Program Support Staff (Recreation Leader Specialist III-V-NC) position is a part-time, seasonal role within the City of Long Beach's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. This role involves assisting with a variety of summer programs aimed at providing recreational activities for children and youth in the community. The position is designed to ensure that the department's programs are well-staffed and effectively managed during the summer months, contributing to the overall mission of promoting health, safety, and well-being among participants.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and implement various program activities.
  • Participate with children of various ages during all activities.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the children in your care at all times.
  • Adhere to the department dress code by maintaining a neat and clean personal appearance.
  • Implement the department and site administrative and record-keeping policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other assigned duties as requested by the lead staff and/or supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age (if under 18, must have valid work permit).
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and assist various programs at various park locations.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in recreation programs, child care, sports, and/or other related areas.
