The Recreation Therapist at CF-Salinas Valley State Prison plays a crucial role in enhancing the rehabilitation of inmates through specialized programs and services. Under the supervision of the Chief Psychologist, the therapist is responsible for developing and implementing recreational activities that promote social interaction and encourage the appropriate use of leisure time. These activities are designed to aid in the preparation of inmates for re-entry into the general population or parole, thereby facilitating their successful reintegration into society. The therapist will work closely with Interdisciplinary Treatment Teams (IDTT), which include Primary Clinicians, Nursing staff, Mental Health staff, and Custody personnel, to ensure that the recreational programs align with the clinical needs of the inmates and contribute to their overall improvement in functioning. The position requires a strong commitment to fostering a safe and humane environment for inmates while promoting their mental and emotional well-being through engaging recreational activities. The Recreation Therapist will also be involved in assessing the needs of inmates and tailoring programs to meet those needs, ensuring that each individual has the opportunity to participate in activities that are both enjoyable and beneficial to their rehabilitation process. This role is essential in supporting the mission of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Correctional Health Care Services, which is to provide education, treatment, and rehabilitative programs that prepare inmates for a successful return to their communities.
