About the position

The Rural Metro Fire Department of Central Arizona Operations is actively seeking candidates for the position of Recruit Firefighter. This role is essential for building an eligibility list for future firefighting positions within the department. Candidates must meet specific requirements, including holding a current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate obtained within the last four months, and must possess all necessary certifications as outlined in the job requirements. The selection process includes a written exam, an interview panel, and successful completion of a fire physical agility assessment, drug screening, and physical examination. Additionally, candidates must submit a completed department application to be considered for the position. As a Recruit Firefighter, you will be part of a dedicated team providing community-based fire protection and emergency medical services across unincorporated areas of Maricopa and Pinal Counties, as well as contracted towns and communities. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including conducting fire safety inspections, providing public education, and responding to emergency medical calls. You will operate various fire equipment and apparatus, engage in fire suppression activities, and perform skilled tasks in emergency situations. The position requires a commitment to ongoing training and participation in mandatory drills and evaluations to maintain skills and readiness for emergency response. The salary for this position ranges from $47,294.40 to $65,664.40 for Firefighter/EMT roles and from $55,664.40 to $74,014.40 for Firefighter/Medic roles. Responsibilities

  • Conduct fire safety, home safety, fire extinguisher and pre-fire planning inspections.
  • Provide information to the public, install smoke detectors, conduct station tours, visit schools, and participate in public education standbys.
  • Serve the public and interact cooperatively with co-workers, supervisors, and other healthcare workers.
  • Engage with representatives of other City departments, fire departments, and local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Perform fire suppression and control operations using various fire equipment and gear.
  • Drive and operate fire apparatus; conduct search and rescue, ventilation, and salvage operations.
  • Provide written reports detailing specific firefighting and rescue actions taken on scene.
  • Respond to emergency medical calls, providing emergency and non-emergency medical procedures both on scene and in a moving vehicle.
  • Perform skilled tasks at the scenes of emergency and non-emergency calls, and transfer patients to medical facilities.
  • Provide written reports detailing patient care.
  • May be assigned primary duties as an emergency medical technician on 911 ambulance.
  • Conduct daily and weekly vehicle and equipment inspections as assigned.
  • Document and report all vehicle and equipment discrepancies to the on-duty Fire Captain.
  • Perform daily maintenance of facilities by cleaning, inspecting, and conducting necessary facility maintenance.
  • Participate in all required training sessions, including live fire drills, performance evaluation drills, and ongoing skills maintenance.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Must possess an Arizona State Driver's License.
  • Prior experience in firefighting or emergency services is preferred.
  • Current CPAT certificate (within the last four months) is required.
  • State of Arizona Paramedic Certification or EMT Certification is required.
  • Current CPR card is required.
  • Current PALS certification is required.
  • Current ACLS certification is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency medical services or firefighting is preferred.
