About the position

The Recruiter position at Marten Transport is focused on attracting and hiring qualified drivers who meet the company's stringent hiring criteria. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that the company maintains optimal staffing levels for its equipment by recruiting a diverse pool of candidates, including independent contractors, fleet owners, and driver trainees. The recruiter will engage with potential applicants through various channels, including phone and internet, to discuss available positions and the benefits of working with Marten Transport. This role requires a proactive approach to recruitment, with a goal of achieving three successful hires per week. In addition to recruitment, the recruiter will be responsible for conducting interviews, making sales presentations about the company’s offerings, and tracking applicants throughout the entire application process. This includes verifying employment histories, checking motor vehicle records, and conducting reference checks to ensure candidates meet the necessary qualifications. The recruiter will also be tasked with notifying approved applicants about orientation schedules and arranging travel for newly hired drivers. Regular reporting to the Recruiting Supervisor on recruitment issues and challenges is also a key responsibility of this role. The recruiter will interact daily with both existing drivers and potential candidates, fostering relationships that promote the company’s driver referral program and other recruitment initiatives. This position may require occasional travel to attend recruiting functions, making it essential for the recruiter to be adaptable and willing to engage in various recruiting activities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • To recruit qualified drivers, independent contractors, fleet owners, and driver trainees.
  • Interview driver applicants inquires over the phone and/or Internet for available positions.
  • Make sales presentations about Marten Transport, regarding benefits, pay, equipment, etc. to applicants.
  • Track applicants through the entire application process, including DAC, motor vehicle record, and reference checking.
  • Process and verify histories by calling, faxing, and writing to employment references.
  • Make hiring decisions using hiring criteria to determine qualifications and suitability for employment as a Marten Driver.
  • Notify approved applicants of orientation day schedule and administer travel arrangements for newly hired drivers.
  • Achieve a goal of 3 hires per week.
  • Promote driver referral program and other recruiting programs.
  • Report to Recruiting Supervisor on issues and problems as needed.
  • Occasional travel required to recruiting functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
