About The Position

Central Connecticut State University invites applications for the position of full-time Recruitment and Admissions Counselor in the Office of Recruitment and Admissions in the Undergraduate division. This position represents the University both on- and off-campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process including at college fairs, high school visits, and other events. Come be a part of our team! The Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions team serves as the first point of contact for prospective students. Maintaining an engaging and inclusive environment the office receives and reviews approximately 10,000 applications per year and prides itself on providing personal engagement opportunities for all applicants. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of admissions counseling and/or student outreach experience, or equivalent.
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the admissions profession positively through a strong, student-centered ethic.
  • Basic familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruitment, advising, and counseling students regarding university programs, admission requirements procedures and related matters with special emphasis on high school and transfer students.
  • Make decisions on applications for admissions to the University.
  • Represent the University both on- and off-campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the success of various student-visit programs designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants to the University.
  • Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel both in- and out-of-state.
  • Coordinate and support invitational programs of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, as well as some others in conjunction with other campus offices.
  • Review and score application essays and other materials submitted by applicants for the purpose of making admission decisions.
  • Travel to remote locations and load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment.
  • Work some evening and weekend hours, especially during the travel season.
