About the position

The Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist at Journey's End Refugee Services is responsible for managing the entire recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing and interviewing candidates to overseeing the onboarding process. This role emphasizes collaboration with supervisors to understand hiring needs and ensure new employees are integrated into the agency culture. The specialist will also assist with HR operations, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures while exemplifying the agency's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with supervisors to assess staffing needs and create/update job descriptions.
  • Post all job openings and source potential candidates through various channels.
  • Manage the application tracking system and screen applications for hiring managers.
  • Maintain communication with hiring managers throughout the recruitment process.
  • Schedule employment interviews and prepare interview documents.
  • Conduct background, employment, and reference checks as needed.
  • Manage communication with candidates, including job offers and rejections.
  • Track and report on key recruitment metrics as requested.
  • Optimize the recruitment process by leveraging technology efficiently.
  • Manage the onboarding process to ensure a welcoming experience for new hires.
  • Serve as a point of contact for new employees during their first weeks.
  • Facilitate onboarding sessions, including benefits review and new hire orientation.
  • Partner with supervisors to communicate role-specific training and expectations.
  • Manage the completion of the 90-day evaluation process for new hires.
  • Collect feedback from new hires to improve the onboarding process.
  • Create onboarding materials and update orientation content as needed.
  • Ensure new hires feel connected to their teams and integrated into the agency's culture.
  • Follow up with new hires at various intervals to check on their experience.
  • Work on retention strategies to reduce turnover and improve employee satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements in recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends and best practices in HR and employment law.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant candidate and employee records.
  • Assist HR team with routine tasks related to performance management and employee wellness.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
  • At least one year of professional human resource experience, 3+ years preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal + written).
  • Proactive, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite products.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices is a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrating cultural competency.
