About the position

The Recycling Operations FE Manager is responsible for overseeing various departments within the recycling facility, including stockpiling, shearing, torching, baling, shiploading, container loading, and scale operations. This role focuses on ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards while managing production, budgeting, and employee training. The primary goal is to achieve excellence in facility management, ensuring high-quality product output while minimizing accidents and maximizing profits.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee departments including stockpiling, shearing, torching, baling, shiploading, container loading, and scale operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and regulatory guidelines, including OSHA standards.
  • Create and implement Health & Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor and reduce accident frequency within the department through safety programs.
  • Coordinate operational goals based on monthly projections set by management.
  • Approve and oversee scheduling for major projects, including manpower and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Work with departmental supervisors on internal budgeting and forecasting.
  • Plan and evaluate ship loading and barge operations, coordinating with maritime agencies.
  • Supervise yard and shear personnel in sorting and preparing scrap for shipment.
  • Manage port security in compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain staff levels in compliance with HR policies and union contracts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years of manufacturing experience, with 2-5 years of managerial experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Prior experience managing and leading a work crew.
  • Experience in maintenance and shiploading preferred.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience managing a departmental budget and justifying capital expenditures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish speaking skills are helpful but not necessary.
  • Previous exposure to working within a unionized environment is a plus.
