About the position

The Reentry Systems Engineer will engage in engineering challenges related to the reentry systems of the Nation's strategic ballistic missile and hypersonic weapons systems. This role involves conducting performance assessments, data analysis, and guiding the integration and testing of various reentry systems, which are crucial for national defense. The engineer will work collaboratively with a diverse team to address engineering challenges and communicate findings to government and industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering analysis and assess the performance of reentry bodies
  • Lead trade studies on various reentry systems
  • Lead and analyze flight test data to understand system performance
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to advise government and industry partners on engineering challenges and design trades
  • Produce reports and presentations to communicate findings to team members and government partners
  • Work on reentry systems throughout all phases of the product life-cycle from development through deployment.

Requirements

  • B.S. in engineering and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of key reentry subject areas such as aerodynamic performance, flight dynamics, and/or subsystem performance
  • Experience or knowledge in design, integration, and/or testing of hypersonics systems
  • Strong computer experience and programming skills, including MATLAB
  • Ability to work and effectively interact with colleagues and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to attend meetings or field tests (approx. 30-35 days per year)
  • Comfortable working in closed area facilities
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Initiative, interest in skill development, and flexibility to accept varied assignments
  • Active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in engineering and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience with Navy and/or Air Force strategic reentry systems
  • Extensive background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or aero-thermal analysis, aerodynamics, structural dynamics, and interface performance requirements
  • Previous design experience for related missile and reentry body subsystems
  • Currently have an active Top Secret Clearance.
