The Referral Coordinator plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by managing the coordination, processing, and obtaining prior authorizations for medical referrals. This position involves collaboration with medical providers and patient care support staff to ensure effective communication and successful tracking of referrals, ultimately enhancing patient care and service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and process medical referrals for services and procedures as requested by medical providers.
- Obtain prior authorizations and request necessary reports for referrals.
- Gather pertinent information via EHR or from the clinical team to complete the referral process accurately.
- Respond to and document phone calls and requests from patients in a timely manner, reviewing details and expectations about referrals.
- Utilize third-party payer/insurance portals as needed for referral processing.
- Cross-train with other Referral Coordinators to learn processes related to various service lines.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Associate's Degree preferred.
