About the position

The Referral Coordinator at Sweetgrass Pediatrics is responsible for obtaining necessary information, insurance verification, and authorization to ensure proper patient treatment and referrals. This role involves coordinating scheduling with patients and specialty practices, while adhering to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the practice's established procedures. The position emphasizes quality customer service, effective communication, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain information, insurance verification, and authorization for patient treatment and referrals.
  • Review orders written by providers to determine where tests and procedures may be performed based on patient insurance.
  • Pre-authorize and pre-certify tests or procedures as required.
  • Coordinate scheduling with patients and outside entities for referrals.
  • Schedule patients referred to specialty practices by providers.
  • Attend staff meetings as required and complete all mandatory training.
  • Organize, plan, and manage time effectively to meet position requirements.
  • Demonstrate commitment to superior customer experiences and collaborate with others to coordinate care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior medical practice experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and prior experience with insurance verification preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications.
  • Prior experience with EMR preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write effectively.
  • Demonstrate proper telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines.
