About the position

The Facilities Management position at Roger Williams University involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities centered around the analysis, repair, and maintenance of ventilation and air conditioning systems. The technician will utilize necessary hand tools and testing equipment to ensure that all installations meet the required standards. A critical aspect of the job is the ability to repair freon leaks and conduct retests to confirm the integrity of the systems. The position also involves assisting the Manager of Mechanical and Electrical Systems and the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Systems Supervisor in various projects aimed at upgrading and modifying existing building HVAC systems. This full-time role is part of the Facilities Management Union and requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, repair and maintain ventilation and air conditioning systems.
  • Evacuate and recharge HVAC systems, including removing freon using a recovery machine.
  • Collaborate with Energy Management Technicians to resolve HVAC-related issues.
  • Install, inspect, operate, and repair HVAC appliances and equipment using necessary tools and testing equipment.
  • Repair freon leaks and retest for leaks to ensure system integrity.
  • Assist in upgrading and modifying existing building HVAC systems under the guidance of management.

Requirements

  • Technical school training and a minimum of 5 years' experience in HVAC systems maintenance.
  • Must be licensed to purchase and recover refrigerant in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Must hold a current RI refrigeration and/or RI pipe fitter Journeyman license.
  • 5 years' experience in a corporate/commercial setting maintaining HVAC systems.
  • Proficient in interpreting and understanding building drawings and documentation.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide expert guidance to levels III and/or II Refrigeration/Appliance/HVAC Technicians.
