About the position
The Ammonia Refrigeration Technician is responsible for maintaining and servicing ammonia refrigeration systems and related utility equipment. This role ensures the safe operation of the ammonia refrigeration system and plant utilities, including boilers, air compressors, and HVAC systems. The technician will document daily activities, perform preventive maintenance, and communicate effectively with maintenance management and fellow workers.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining refrigeration equipment and plant utilities such as boilers, air compressors, pumps, motors, and valves.
- Documenting daily activities pertaining to repairs and awareness of potential problems, maintaining all necessary paperwork associated with the PSM program.
- Performing preventive maintenance on compressors, boilers, air compressors, and valves.
- Communicating with Maintenance Management or fellow workers to provide information on production.
- Maintaining a neat and orderly work area using hand tools.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Being available for weekend work and/or additional shift work.
- Using required PPE and following all safety guidelines of the Company.
Requirements
- One (1) or more year of verifiable ammonia refrigeration experience.
- RETA Certification or equivalent technical training is a plus.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to use required tools/equipment for maintaining and repairing ammonia refrigeration systems and utilities.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics and blueprints as they pertain to the plant ammonia systems.
- Experience with screw and reciprocating compressors, Cornell recirculation pumps, HVAC units, boilers, air compressors, and associated control systems.
- Willingness to acquire Hazmat Responder Certification and be an active part of the Hazmat Response Team.
