About the position

The Refrigeration Technician at Stampede Culinary Partners is responsible for operating and maintaining a large ammonia refrigeration system. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of ammonia systems, as well as the ability to perform inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance on various refrigeration equipment. The technician will also be involved in safety programs and compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a large ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Perform work on refrigeration equipment including control valves, solenoid valves, and evaporators.
  • Make periodic inspections of equipment and systems to observe operating conditions and need for repairs.
  • Monitor system performance by checking pressures, levels, and temperatures.
  • Record temperature, pressures, and liquid levels at specified intervals.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and diagrams.
  • Drain oil from the system and change oil in screwpressors.
  • Repair and replace control valves as needed.
  • Manage the preventative maintenance program and distribute work orders.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings and perform PSM work.
  • Handle Hot Work Permits and manage confined space programs.
  • Start systems and adjust controls to maintain proper operation.
  • Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components.
  • Install wiring to connect components to electrical power sources.
  • Be on call 24/7 for refrigeration system issues.
  • Maintain facility's safety systems and HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration systems and electrical controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years operating a large ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Two years as head technician of a large ammonia refrigeration system preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution, motor controls, and programmable logic controllers.
  • RETA class A operator's license (or willingness to obtain).
  • 24-hour emergency responder training and yearly refresher training for emergency responders (HAZMAT).
  • Medical certificate and training to wear S.C.B.A. and/or full face gas mask.
  • Working knowledge of computers and software.
  • Experience in general maintenance, plumbing, and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and requirements.
  • Experience in a USDA meat processing facility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with freon systems.
  • Additional certifications in refrigeration or HVAC systems.
